Welcome to Remarkable Tales!

As someone who loves speculative short fiction (and reads quite a bit of it), I’ve learned that the stories I’m drawn to, the ones I revisit time and again, are those that move me on an emotional level. Inventive worldbuilding, engaging plots, and clever twists are all part of the fun, but for my tastes, it’s usually the character-driven pieces that stay with me long after I’ve finished reading.

I started Remarkable Tales because whenever I find a story I love, one that makes me feel those big emotions, I want to shout about it from the rooftops. I still remember how I felt after finishing Ken Liu’s “The Paper Menagerie,” Gwendolyn Kiste’s “Audrey at Night,” and Jeffrey Ford’s “The Annals of Eelin-Ok,” and I want to help readers discover stories that may also resonate with them.

What can you expect from this blog? I plan to alternate between single-story reviews and recommendation lists. Although I may sometimes post about older fiction, the focus will be on newer pieces published across a variety of markets.

Writers like Ursula K. Le Guin, Ray Bradbury, and James Tiptree, Jr. were part of the foundation of my reading tastes, and their work still moves me to this day. But we are in an exciting modern era for speculative fiction, with new and emerging voices whose tales carry great emotional weight. Angela Liu, Thomas Ha, and Abigail Kemske, among others, are crafting exactly the sort of stories I started this blog to highlight.

I hope you’ll join me as I discover new fiction and share my thoughts in this space. Please consider subscribing so you can be notified whenever a new post is available.

Thanks so much for your time!
